Costumes du Ballet intitulé: "La Nuit," représenté à la Cour en 1653, dans lequel Louis XIV figura habillé en soleil
"Contrary to what has sometimes been assumed, Louis XIV did not dance only majestic and grandiose roles in court ballets. While he is most famous for his spectacular portrayal of the rising sun at the end of the Ballet de la Nuit (1653), he also performed a great variety of other roles, including a Spaniard, an Egyptian, a shepherd, a debauched man, and an iceman, as well as the female roles with which we are concerned here."
